SLIGO, IRELAND — Sligo County Council is issuing a final reminder to residents and the public that the deadline to participate in a crucial public consultation is this Friday, August 22. The consultation is a key step in creating a new Urban Area Plan for Sligo town and its environs.

The council is urging anyone who lives, works, or has an interest in the well-being of Sligo to provide their input. The consultation, which has been ongoing since July 9, seeks answers to a range of important questions about the town’s future. These include:

  • How can the town be made more walkable and accessible?
  • What type of housing does Sligo need to accommodate its growth?
  • Where should community and recreational facilities be improved?
  • What are the most effective ways to tackle vacancy and dereliction in the town center?
  • How can local businesses and the overall vitality of the town be better supported?

Sligo County Council Cathaoirleach Donal Gilroy called the proposed plan a “blueprint for a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable Sligo.” He emphasized that the plan will guide the town’s development in key areas like climate resilience, heritage protection, and housing.

Senior Planner Frank Moylan echoed this sentiment, stating, “This is your chance to help shape the future of your town. We want to know what’s working, what needs to change, and what kind of town you want Sligo to become.”
