Key Advice Issued by DAA Amid High Traffic Volumes and New Security Lane Enhancements
Dublin, October 21, 2025 – Dublin Airport, Ireland’s busiest gateway, is bracing for a major influx of travellers as nearly 460,000 passengers are projected to pass through its terminals between Friday, October 24, and Monday, October 27, marking the final bank holiday weekend before Christmas and the start of the school mid-term break.
Friday, October 24, is forecast to be the peak day, with an estimated 121,000 passengers flying in and out, including 63,000 departures. This surge is driven by both Irish residents seeking short breaks and family visits overseas, as well as a significant number of international tourists arriving in Ireland, providing a welcome boost to the domestic hospitality and tourism sectors.
Mandatory Travel Advice from DAA: Sarah Ryan, Director of Communications at daa, operator of Dublin Airport, emphasized the need for timely arrival:
- Short-Haul Flights: Arrive at your departure terminal two hours in advance.
- Long-Haul Flights: Arrive at your departure terminal three hours in advance.
Furthermore, travellers are reminded that clocks will be set back by one hour in the early hours of Sunday morning, advising passengers to adjust their alarms accordingly to avoid missing their flights.
Major Security Update: Faster Screening
Following the successful rollout of next-generation scanning technology (C3 scanners and body scanners) across both terminals, departing passengers will experience significantly faster security screening:
- Liquids and Electronics: Passengers no longer need to remove liquids or electronics from their hand luggage.
- Liquid Limit Scrapped: The previous 100ml restriction has been removed. Passengers may now carry individual liquid or gel items up to two litres, with no restriction on the total number of items.
Passengers are still advised to be prepared by removing bulky outerwear (jackets, hoodies, scarves, oversized sweaters) and placing any boots extending above the ankle into security trays. Passengers are strongly urged to check their assigned terminal in advance via the airport website.
