Fatal Collision in Waterford: Man Dies After Being Struck by Car

Waterford, Ireland – A man in his 40s has died following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Sallypark, Waterford, early on Sunday morning.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 2:10 am after a car struck a pedestrian. The male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was reported as uninjured.

Road Closure and Investigation Underway

The stretch of the R448 from Rice’s Bridge to the New Rath Road roundabout remains closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators preserve and examine the scene. Local diversions have been put in place to manage traffic flow.

Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Gardaí are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the collision or have information relevant to the investigation.

They are specifically asking for:

  • Witnesses to the collision.
  • Road users who were travelling on the R448 between 1:30 am and 2:15 am on Sunday morning.
  • Anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam footage) from the area during that timeframe is urged to make it available to the investigating Gardaí.
