BALLYSHANNON: A County Fermanagh man has been disqualified from driving for three years after being convicted of drink driving at Laghey, County Donegal, earlier this year.

Conor Curran (29), of 34 Rathfort Crescent, Common, Belleek, appeared before Donegal District Court, sitting in Ballyshannon, on Wednesday, October 1. He pleaded guilty to the offense of driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit at Carrick West, Laghey, on June 30, 2024.

Sergeant Jim Collins informed the court that GardaĆ stopped the defendant’s black Mitsubishi at Laghey. A subsequent breath test administered at the Garda station returned a reading of 67mcg per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg/100ml.

Solicitor Frank Dorrian, representing Mr. Curran, told Judge ƉiteĆ”in Cunningham that his client was a family man who was currently unemployed and came before the court with no previous convictions.

Following the guilty plea, Mr. Dorrian requested a six-month postponement of the driving ban, a request to which Sergeant Collins had no objection.

Judge Cunningham imposed a €200 fine and the mandatory three-year disqualification from holding a driving licence. The driving ban will take effect from March 31 (allowing for the six-month postponement).
