LIMERICK – The community of Rathkeale is preparing to say a final farewell to 21-year-old Sammy McInerney, who tragically lost his life in a road collision last week. Known as a “gentle soul,” Mr. McInerney died at the scene of a two-car crash in Templeglantine during the early hours of Thursday, December 18.

Sammy was driving a car with three young passengers, including a 16-year-old girl who remains seriously injured. Tributes have poured in from friends and former teachers, with many describing him as “forever 21.”

Funeral Details:

  • Reposing: Monday, Dec 22, at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Limerick City (1 pm – 3 pm).
  • Removal: To St. Mary’s Church, Rathkeale.
  • Requiem Mass: Tuesday, Dec 23, at 11:30 am, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses, specifically anyone with dash-cam footage who was traveling on the N21 between Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West between midnight and 1 am on the night of the accident.
