Iarnród Éireann has submitted a planning application for a new train station in Moyross, Co Limerick. The proposed station, located on the Limerick to Galway rail line, is designed to enhance connectivity for the growing population of Moyross, linking them to Limerick city centre, Galway, Cork, Dublin, and other attractions.
Project Details and Timeline
If planning permission is granted and funding is secured, construction is slated to begin in 2026 and is expected to take 15 months to complete. The station will be situated behind Corpus Christi Primary School and the Moyross Community Enterprise Centre. Access to the station is planned from both Corpus Christi Parish Church and Moyross Avenue via the Millennium Park.
The project is funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority and is part of the department’s Pathfinder Programme, which aims to create sustainable travel links nationwide.
Integration with Local Projects
The new station is designed to integrate seamlessly with several other local initiatives, including:
- Limerick City and County Council’s proposed University Avenue scheme.
- The NTA’s BusConnects Limerick project.
- The proposed Limerick CycleConnects Network.
Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien expressed his support for the project, stating it will “provide a key public transport connection to the growing urban area of Moyross, supporting its regeneration.” Iarnród Éireann Chief Executive Jim Meade also highlighted the station’s strategic importance, noting it will “provide excellent connectivity for the existing community of Moyross and for future communities.”
