CASTLEBAR, CO. MAYO – A prominent Irish sports personality and another man are under investigation for their suspected involvement in a serious assault that left a man with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on a street in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:50 am, detectives were alerted to a man found seriously injured on Tucker Street, outside a local pub. He was immediately taken to Mayo University Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, a specialist facility for serious head trauma. His condition is currently described as critical.

While no arrests have been made, sources confirm that the sports star and his associate are being treated as suspects in the ongoing investigation. Gardaí are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and are appealing to the public for help.

Authorities have requested that anyone with information or camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from the Tucker Street area between 2:30 am and 3:15 am on Saturday, contact them. Witnesses are urged to come forward by calling Castlebar Garda Station at 094 903 8200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any local Garda station.
