Man in Critical Condition Following Serious Assault in Co. Waterford; Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses

CAPPOGUIN, CO. WATERFORD – A man in his 40s is fighting for his life in hospital following a serious assault that occurred late last night in the town of Cappoquin, County Waterford.

The incident took place at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the junction of Cook Street and Mill Street in the town centre.

The victim was immediately transported to University Hospital Waterford (UHW), where he is currently receiving treatment for severe injuries. Hospital staff have confirmed that he remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí (Irish Police) in Dungarvan have launched a significant investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault. They are making an urgent public appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Appeal for Information:

Authorities are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the vicinity of Cook Street and Mill Street in Cappoquin between 11:30 p.m. and midnight last night. They are also asking residents or motorists who may have captured any relevant video footage (including dash-cam recordings) in the area to contact them.
