Dublin: A new survey from Microsoft Ireland’s Work Trend Index reveals a record surge in job turnover across Irish workplaces, signaling a highly volatile labor market driven by changing employee priorities and the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Key Findings:
- Record Turnover: 38% of Irish workers reported changing roles in the past year, a significant jump from 23% in the previous year and 19% in 2023.
- Reasons for Leaving: The primary motivators for moving roles included a desire for better work-life balance, improved well-being, issues with direct managers, and company culture.
- Flexibility Demand: Despite a drop in burnout to a three-year low, workplace happiness has also fallen, with 30% of workers planning to request more flexibility in the coming year.
- Digital Overload: The data paints a picture of intense digital pressure: workers are interrupted every two minutes (275 times per day), receive 117 emails daily, and spend 57% of meetings in unscheduled sessions.
- AI Adoption Surges: AI adoption is up 27% year-on-year, with 41% of workers stating it helps them work smarter, though access and training remain uneven.
Catherine Doyle, Microsoft Ireland General Manager, emphasized that the message from the workforce is “urgent and clear: they want the tools, support and skills to adapt” to the changing landscape. She advised that organizations that “embrace AI and invest in inclusive training will be best placed to lead in productivity, innovation, and resilience.”
