WARSAW, POLAND – The Polish Armed Forces deployed military aircraft and activated ground-based air defense systems early Tuesday morning. This preventive measure was taken after Russia launched large-scale airstrikes near the Ukrainian-Polish border.
Key Details of the Escalation
- Military Response: The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces confirmed that fighter jets were scrambled to secure Polish airspace. Radar reconnaissance and air defense units were placed on “heightened readiness.”
- The Target: Russian forces targeted energy infrastructure in western Ukraine, specifically near the border with Poland. This follows the conclusion of recent high-level peace talks in Miami.
- Ukraine Under Alert: Almost all of Ukraine was under air raid alerts on Tuesday morning. In Kyiv, falling debris damaged residential buildings, and emergency power outages were introduced across multiple regions to protect the grid.
“These measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting the airspace, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened regions,” the Polish Operational Command stated on X (formerly Twitter).
