Sligo – Safety concerns regarding a short, dangerous stretch of the Strandhill Road at Knappaghmore, specifically near the railway bridge, were raised at the recent meeting of the Borough District of Sligo.
Councillor Arthur Gibbons formally called upon the roads department to undertake a comprehensive survey of the area, arguing that the bend poses a significant risk to motorists.
“Anyone not used to that corner comes into it way too fast. Itās basically a chicane,” Cllr Gibbons stated, outlining his concerns about the sharp, tricky nature of the corner.
Cllr Gibbons stressed the immediate need for action to prevent accidents. He suggested that larger and more prominent road notices should be installed, particularly on the Strandhill side, advising drivers of the upcoming hazard and urging them to slow down.
The requested survey aims to assess the need for enhanced signage and potential road engineering changes to improve safety on this tricky stretch leading under the railway bridge.
