SLIGO, IRELAND—Sligo University Hospital is urging the public to adhere to strict visiting restrictions following a total of four Covid-19 outbreaks on its wards.

Restrictions and Safety Measures

In a statement, the HSE (Health Service Executive) confirmed that strict infection control procedures are now in effect on the affected wards. These measures will remain in place until further notice to protect patients, visitors, and staff.

To ensure the safety of vulnerable patients, the hospital is limiting visitors. Exceptions will be made on “compassionate or end of life grounds” only. Anyone planning to visit is asked to contact the relevant ward manager in advance.

Guidelines for Visitors

The hospital has issued a clear set of guidelines for anyone who needs to enter the facility:

  • Children are not permitted unless they are patients themselves.
  • All visitors must use the alcohol hand gels provided at the entrance and exit of the hospital.
  • Anyone with symptoms of illness—including diarrhea, vomiting, sore throat, cough, fever, or shortness of breath—is asked to refrain from visiting for at least 48 hours after symptoms have completely resolved.
  • Visitors are also requested not to use patient toilets or en-suites on the wards and to wash their hands thoroughly with soap.

Hospital management stressed that these measures are crucial to prevent the further spread of the virus within the hospital and protect those most at risk.
