The event features a challenging 15-kilometer course. Runners will begin at the Cannon Gun on the beachfront, ascend Knocknarea mountain to Queen Maeve’s Cairn, and then return to the starting point. The fastest runners are expected to complete the course in around an hour.
Organizers, including PRO Micki Murray, have been preparing for the event since January. The run attracts participants not only locally but also from across Ireland and other countries. Murray highlighted the event’s popularity, noting that people often plan their holidays around it. The run is also a way to promote the natural beauty of Strandhill and Sligo.
In addition to the main race, other events will take place throughout the day:
- Young Warriors Run: A 5K race for 12 to 17-year-olds.
- The Warriors Walk: A 10K walking event following the road portion of the main run.
For the main runners, race packs can be collected at the National Surf Centre on Friday, August 22, and Saturday, August 23.
The Warriors Festival marquee will also be set up at the beachfront plaza, featuring a bar operated by The White Hag brewery, as well as live music and DJs. The prize-giving ceremony will be held in the marquee at approximately 5:30 PM.
Organizers are advising participants and spectators to take the bus to Strandhill due to major traffic restrictions and limited parking. They also urge everyone to follow directions from gardaí (Irish police), marshals, and officials.
