Residents and businesses across parts of Tipperary will face overnight water restrictions this weekend as the ongoing heatwave continues to put pressure on local supplies.
Uisce Éireann confirmed that homes and businesses supplied by the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant will be affected, with measures described as essential to protect dwindling reservoir levels and maintain daytime availability.
Areas Affected
The restrictions will impact customers in Poulatar, Ballybacon, Newcastle, Ballyveera, Castlegrace, Shanakill, Magherareagh, Ardfinnan, and surrounding communities.
Restriction Schedule
According to Uisce Éireann, the overnight shutdowns will follow this schedule:
- Friday, 10pm – 6am Saturday
- Saturday, 10pm – 6am Sunday
- Sunday, 10pm – 6am Monday
During these hours, residents are advised to conserve water and avoid unnecessary usage.
Reason for the Restrictions
Uisce Éireann explained that low reservoir levels combined with operational issues at the Goatenbridge treatment plant have forced the implementation of restrictions. Without these measures, the utility warns that daytime supplies could be disrupted.
Statement from Uisce Éireann
Pierce Faherty, Water Operations Manager for Tipperary, acknowledged the inconvenience but stressed the necessity of the restrictions:
“We understand the inconvenience of overnight restrictions, but these measures are necessary to ensure continuous daytime supply for homes and businesses while we allow the reservoir levels time to recover.”
He added that crews are working continuously to restore supply to normal levels and that every effort is being made to minimise disruption.
Advice to Customers
Uisce Éireann is urging residents to use water wisely during the daytime and to avoid wasting supply on non-essential activities such as garden watering, car washing, or filling paddling pools during this period of reduced availability.
The utility said it would continue to monitor reservoir levels and provide updates if further restrictions are required.
