DUBLIN, Ireland — Two men were arrested at Dublin Airport yesterday after Gardaí (Irish police) foiled what is suspected to be a professional theft operation targeting high-value duty-free goods.
The men, aged in their 40s and 50s, had landed at Dublin Airport yesterday morning but never officially left the airport premises. Gardaí estimate that over approximately three hours, the suspects stole around €6,000 worth of duty-free items, primarily including expensive perfumes.
Operation Tairge Foils Escape
Gardaí at Dublin Airport were alerted to the thefts and promptly initiated a covert surveillance operation, dubbed “Operation Tairge.”
The suspects had return tickets booked to a different London airport than the one they had arrived from, and one of the men was found to be carrying an empty suitcase, suggesting the intention to transport the stolen goods.
The arrests were made as the two men attempted to leave the country. They were taken into custody for questioning and are expected to appear in court later today in connection with the thefts.
