Gormanston, Co. Meath – Two men have tragically died and several others were injured following a devastating multi-vehicle collision involving a lorry, a bus, and a car on the R132 in Gormanston this morning, at approximately 6.30am.
Fatalities and Injuries
- The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s, and the driver of the Bus Éireann Route 101 service, a man in his 50s, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
- The female driver of the car, aged in her 40s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
- The female passenger of the car, a teenager, sustained serious injuries and was transferred from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
- Several passengers on the Bus Éireann bus were also taken to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Gardaí Investigation and Road Closure
Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene. The R132 has been closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the crash site. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who were travelling on the R132 in Gormanston between 5.45am and 6.45am this morning and have camera footage (including dash-cam), to make it available.
Community Response
Local representatives expressed profound shock and sadness following the tragedy:
- Sinn Féin TD Darren O’Rourke described the news as “devastating,” coming just over a week after another fatal crash in Dundalk. He stressed that local communities will “rally around in support of those involved.”
- Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee called it a “traumatic event for those affected” and a “very dark day for the Meath east community,” while paying tribute to the emergency services.
