NEW ROSS, CO. WEXFORD – A 35-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his eight-year-old daughter and the attempted murder of her mother following a horrific incident at their family home in County Wexford last year.
Mohammed Al Shaker Al Tamimi, with an address in Lower William Street, New Ross, Co Wexford, entered a guilty plea today to the murder of Malika Noor Al Kattib (8) and the attempted murder of Aisha Noor Al Kattib on Sunday, December 1, 2024. The court heard that both the mother and child were violently attacked and stabbed, resulting in fatal injuries to the young girl.
Sentencing Scheduled for December
During the proceedings, prosecuting counsel Anne Rowland confirmed to the court that the surviving victim, Aisha Noor Al Kattib, would be prepared to deliver a victim impact statement at the sentencing hearing in December.
However, Ms. Rowland noted that the victim “was not feeling very strong at the moment,” despite the court offering an earlier date for the hearing.
Defence counsel Michael Bowman confirmed that all matters had been explained to the accused, Al Tamimi, and requested that all necessary medical attention continue to be provided to him while in custody. The court noted that while an interpreter was available, Al Tamimi’s English proficiency was very good.
Mr Justice Paul McDermott formally remanded Al Tamimi in custody. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 15, 2025, where the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment is expected to be imposed.
