DUBLIN – Gardaí have launched a major investigation after a woman was critically injured in a horrific attack at a house in Clondalkin, Dublin, this morning. The woman sustained severe burn injuries after being deliberately set on fire.
The incident occurred just after 10:00 AM at a house in Oak Downs, a quiet, large residential area off the Boot Road in Clondalkin. A man was also injured in the attack.
Deliberate and Targeted Attack
According to Garda sources, the attack unfolded when a woman answered a knock at the door. An accelerant, believed to be petrol, was reportedly sprayed on her and then ignited.
The woman suffered severe burn injuries to her face and body. She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Tallaght University Hospital. Her condition is currently described as critical. Gardaí are maintaining a presence at the hospital.
The fire was extinguished by the Dublin Fire Brigade, who were called immediately to the scene along with the Gardaí.
A Garda source described the incident as a “horrific and frightening attack,” indicating that investigators believe the incident was targeted and deliberate. They suspect the motive may be drugs related.
Forensic Examination Underway
The scene at the house in Oak Downs has been sealed off for a full forensic examination. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed, and an incident room has been established at Clondalkin Garda Station to coordinate the investigation.
Gardaí have confirmed that several other people were present in the house at the time of the attack.
Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Gardaí are urgently appealing to the public for assistance.
They are asking anyone who was in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9:30 AM and 10:20 AM this morning and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) to contact investigators.
