Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for County Cork, as further heavy showers are expected to hit ground already saturated from recent wet weather, raising the risk of surface water accumulation and spot flooding.
The warning came into effect at 11:00 AM today and will remain in place until 11:00 PM tonight.
Key Safety Advice:
- Flooding Risk: The combination of heavy rain and saturated ground creates an elevated risk of localised flooding, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
- Motorists Caution: Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly on major routes like the N40 South Ring Road and the M8 motorway, which may experience reduced visibility and hazardous conditions during the heaviest downpours.
- Vigilance: Cork County Council and Cork City Council have been alerted and will monitor vulnerable locations. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant and consider moving vehicles to higher ground where feasible.
Although the warning expires tonight, authorities advise that residual surface water may still be present on roads into Thursday morning.
