Sligo County Council has secured a significant allocation of €3 million for 19 projects under the National Transport Authority’s Active Travel scheme. The funding aims to enhance walking and cycling infrastructure across the county, improving accessibility and sustainability for local communities.
Key developments include segregated cycle lanes, widened footpaths, new pedestrian crossings, and walking and cycling bridges. The initiative will significantly improve mobility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the positive impact on communities across Sligo. He highlighted notable allocations, such as €150,000 for the Strandhill Active Travel Scheme, €260,000 for the Cleaveragh Active Travel Scheme, €215,000 for the Coolaney to Rockfield Village Active Travel Scheme, and €395,000 for projects at Scoil Ursula and St. John’s NS in Sligo.
