A man accused of killing his wife in Cork will go on trial later this month.
Regin Parithapara Rajan, in his 40s, is charged with murdering his wife, Deepa Paruthiyezhuth Dinamani, at their home in Wilton, Cork, on July 14, 2023. Ms. Dinamani, a 38-year-old accountant from India, had only been in Ireland for three months before her death.
The trial will start on March 24 at the Central Criminal Court in Cork and is expected to last about three weeks. Experts are analyzing Ms. Dinamani’s phone, and authorities are deciding if witnesses from India will testify in person or via Zoom.
Detective Inspector Jason Lynch called the case “complex,” involving forensic evidence, international investigations, and 850,000 pages of data. Over 110 witness statements were collected.
At the first court hearing in July 2023, Detective Garda Alan Johnson said Mr. Rajan was charged at Togher Garda Station but did not respond to the charge.
Ms. Dinamani, who worked in fund services at a Cork business, was found dead in a bedroom of their home after she failed to pick up her son from a friend’s house. A post-mortem was conducted at Cork University Hospital, and forensic experts examined the crime scene.
