A man in his 40s has died following a collision between a motorcycle and a car in Waterford city this afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly after 1pm on Sunday along Williamstown Road, a busy route connecting residential areas to the city centre. Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene immediately after reports of the crash.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been taken to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in the coming days.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was also taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment. Gardaí confirmed that her injuries are not life-threatening.
The section of Williamstown Road where the crash occurred remains closed while Forensic Collision Investigators conduct an examination. Local diversions are currently in place, and motorists have been advised to avoid the area until further notice.
Gardaí have issued a public appeal for witnesses and digital evidence to assist in the investigation. They are urging:
- Motorists with dash-cam footage who were travelling in the Williamstown Road area between 12.50pm and 1.30pm to come forward.
- Residents with CCTV cameras facing the roadway to review their recordings and provide any relevant footage.
