Reassurances have been given that the Sligo section of the N17 will not be impacted by the upcoming changes to Ireland’s speed limits.

Starting this Friday, the default speed limit on national secondary roads will be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h as part of new road safety measures. Additionally, speed limits on local roads will be lowered from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.

These changes have sparked local concerns over whether adjustments would be made to the N17, where certain sections already have an 80 km/h speed limit in place. However, Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey has provided clarity on the matter, confirming that no further reductions will be applied to the Sligo stretch of the N17 under the new regulations.

The confirmation is expected to ease concerns among local motorists and businesses that rely on the route for daily travel and transport.
