County Mayo, Ireland – In a heart-wrenching incident, a mother and her young daughter lost their lives in a severe collision between a car and a truck. The tragic event occurred on the N60 near the village of Ballyhaunis on July 1st.

According to the Gardaí, the collision involved a car driven by the mother, who was in her 40s, and a truck. Both the mother and her daughter, who was a passenger in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services, including local fire brigades and paramedics, arrived promptly but were unable to save them.

The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is cooperating with the investigation. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and devastating. Authorities have closed the road for a thorough forensic examination, causing significant traffic disruptions.

Local representatives expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. John O’Malley, a Mayo County Council member, stated, “This is an unspeakable tragedy for the family and the community. Our hearts go out to them during this incredibly difficult time.”

This incident highlights the critical importance of road safety in Ireland. Calls for increased measures to prevent such tragedies continue, urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits and traffic regulations.

The loss of a mother and child in such a sudden and violent manner has deeply affected the residents of Ballyhaunis and surrounding areas. Vigils and memorials are being organized to honour the lives lost and support the grieving family. Our thoughts are with them as they navigate this heart-breaking loss.
