Media Officer Diaz Xavier said that preparations have been completed for the celebration which will start at 4 pm at Rathcormack National School.

Bishop of Sligo Kevin Doran will be the chief guest. This time the festival is waiting for the guests with many innovations along with the usual ingredients. The association has also decided to support the Sligo Cancer Support Centre through this event.  

The association’s 2025 Year Planner will also be unveiled.

Media Officer Diaz Xavier informed that all the preparations for the celebrations which will be held from 10 am to 7 pm have been completed.

This year’s highlight is the men’s Vadam Vali, which is held between eight villages, and the women’s teams are also participating.

A 40-member committee is working under the leadership of President Anirban Banja for the success of the Onam celebration, which includes all the unique dishes of Onam. This time the feast is prepared by renowned culinary expert Martin Varghese.

The celebration was graced by the presence of renowned yoga instructor Ms. Tara McEvoy from Sligo Yoga Centre and Garda Sergeant Alan Commons, who was the esteemed guest for the event.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by the President of the Indian Association of Sligo and Peace Commissioner, Anirban Bhanja. He expressed his gratitude to all attendees for joining in the celebration and emphasized the importance of yoga in fostering physical and mental well-being.

As a gesture of appreciation, a flower bouquet was presented to Ms. Tara McEvoy by Moncy Varghese, the Treasurer of IAS. Similarly, Garda Sergeant Alan Commons was honoured with a flower bouquet presented by Divyashri Anilkumar, the auditor of IAS. The presentation of bouquets symbolized the association’s gratitude for their contributions to the event and the community.

Ms. Tara McEvoy led a captivating yoga session, guiding participants through a series of asanas and breathing exercises. Her expertise and engaging teaching style captivated the attendees, many of whom were new to yoga. The session highlighted the benefits of yoga in promoting relaxation, flexibility, and overall health.

Garda Sergeant Alan Commons, in his brief address, praised the Indian Association of Sligo for organizing such a meaningful event. He underscored the value of community activities in strengthening social bonds and enhancing mutual understanding among diverse cultural groups.
