The funding aims to enhance walking and cycling infrastructure across the county, improving accessibility and sustainability for local communities.

Key developments include segregated cycle lanes, widened footpaths, new pedestrian crossings, and walking and cycling bridges. The initiative will significantly improve mobility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the positive impact on communities across Sligo. He highlighted notable allocations, such as €150,000 for the Strandhill Active Travel Scheme, €260,000 for the Cleaveragh Active Travel Scheme, €215,000 for the Coolaney to Rockfield Village Active Travel Scheme, and €395,000 for projects at Scoil Ursula and St. John’s NS in Sligo.

  5. Strandhill Active Travel Scheme: €150,000
  6. Rosses Point Village Road Footpath Scheme: €30,000
  7. Cleaveragh Active Travel Scheme: €260,000
  8. First Sea Road Active Travel Scheme: €20,000
  9. Caltragh Newtown Holmes Active Travel Scheme: €45,000
  10. Ballygawley Village to Castledargan Footpath: €100,000
  11. Coolaney to Rockfield Village Active Travel Scheme: €215,000
  12. Carraroe to GAA Pitch Active Travel Scheme: €205,000
  13. Safe Routes to School (St John’s National School): €200,000
  14. Safe Routes to School (Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone): €130,000
  15. Scoil Ursula, Sligo: €195,000
  16. Sligo City to Carraroe Active Travel Corridor – Pathfinder Scheme: €240,000
  17. Sligo City to ATU Active Travel Corridor – Pathfinder Scheme: €40,000

  19. Countywide Bus Shelters: €500,000
