County Sligo is under a condition red extreme fire risk warning. This is the highest level of fire danger.

The warning stays in place until Monday at 12 noon. Very dry weather has created dangerous conditions for fires to start and spread quickly.

Local authorities are asking people to be extra careful during this time. Even small sparks can cause big fires when conditions are this dry.

People should avoid activities that could start fires. This includes campfires, barbecues, or throwing cigarettes on the ground.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should call the Gardaí right away. Some fires are started on purpose, which is illegal and very dangerous.

The dry weather makes it easy for fires to get out of control fast. Firefighters are ready to respond, but prevention is the best protection.

Residents should stay alert and follow all fire safety rules until conditions improve.
