Water from the Killsellagh area in Sligo is safe to drink, according to Uisce Éireann. This comes after many people complained about bad taste and smell in their tap water.

The water company says their tests show the water meets all safety rules. Customers have been calling to report the taste and odor problems. Uisce Éireann is treating this as urgent and looking into what’s causing the issue.

James Melvin from Uisce Éireann told customers the water is safe. He said they are doing detailed checks to find out why the water sometimes tastes or smells bad.

“We start special testing when we hear about taste or smell problems,” Melvin explained. “This makes sure there’s no danger to people’s health.”

The company says people should not drink cloudy or colored water. If your water looks dirty, let the tap run for a few minutes. Once it runs clear, it’s safe to drink.

This follows a previous problem in May when 1,665 customers had to boil their water. That issue was fixed after a problem at the treatment plant was sorted out.

Areas affected include Calry, Hazelwood, Kilsellagh, and several other neighborhoods around Sligo.

People with concerns can call Uisce Éireann’s helpline at 1800 278 278, which is open 24 hours a day.
