DUBLIN — Commuters in Dublin are facing significant travel disruptions this morning after a massive fire at George’s Dock last night forced the partial suspension of the Luas Red Line.

The blaze, which broke out near the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at approximately 6 PM yesterday, required a response from three Dublin Fire Brigade engines. Firefighters worked late into the night to bring the flames under control.

A Luas spokesperson confirmed the service disruptions, stating, “The Luas Red Line Service is running from Tallaght / Saggart to Connolly Stop only. There is no service from Connolly to The Point Luas Stop. This is due to a fire yesterday in George’s Dock.”

The suspension is expected to last for an undetermined period while authorities assess the full extent of the damage to the bridge and crucial Luas infrastructure, including overhead power lines.

In addition to the rail service closure, the road between Commons Street and Harbourmaster Place has been closed for safety reasons. Dublin traffic authorities have advised travelers heading into the city to use alternative routes and allow for extra travel time.

The disruption is expected to have a significant impact on thousands of daily commuters, as the affected section of the line serves major business hubs, entertainment venues, and residential areas. While Dublin Bus services are operating as normal, they may experience increased passenger numbers and delays.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries have been reported. Structural engineers and safety experts are scheduled to conduct a full inspection of the site today.
