Doneraile, Co. Cork– Two individuals have been arrested and are being detained by An Garda Síochána following the death of a 44-year-old man, Barry Daly, after an alleged assault outside his home in the quiet North Cork village of Doneraile yesterday.
Mr. Daly, a beloved father-of-four who worked for An Post in nearby Mallow, was discovered fatally injured in the early hours of Sunday morning at Rockview Terrace. A man in his 20s and a teenager were subsequently arrested and are currently being held at separate garda stations in Cork under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Investigation Underway
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to oversee the inquiry, with an incident room established at Mallow Garda Station. The area surrounding the house at Rockview Terrace remained cordoned off overnight as a crime scene, alongside a second location within the grounds of Doneraile Park, as forensic examinations commenced.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Mr. Daly’s remains to determine the precise cause of death. Gardaí have also assigned a family liaison officer to support the bereaved family.
In a statement, An Post expressed its shock at the passing of their colleague, saying, “We offer our deepest sympathy to Barry’s family. May he rest in peace.”
Gardaí are making a public appeal for information, urging anyone who was in the village between midnight and 2 am yesterday morning to come forward. They are also requesting dashcam or mobile phone footage as door-to-door inquiries continue in Doneraile.
