In a devastating maritime accident off the Sicilian coast, a luxury yacht named Bayesian capsized in severe weather conditions. Early in the morning, authorities discovered a body near the wreckage at a depth of 50 meters, believed to be the vessel’s chef. Despite challenging conditions, 15 individuals were rescued, but six remain unaccounted for, stirring concerns and extensive search operations.

Among the missing is Mike Lynch, a noted technology mogul with Irish heritage, originally from Essex. Lynch’s connection to the area is deep, with his father hailing from Co Cork and his mother from Co Tipperary. The incident has drawn significant attention due to his prominence in the tech industry.

The yacht, under a British flag, encountered a violent storm characterized by water spouts that overwhelmed the 55-meter vessel. Local authorities, including Filippo Tripoli, the mayor of Bagheria, confirmed that the yacht sank near Santa Flavia due to the harsh weather, prompting immediate responses from police and emergency services.

The rescued include a diverse group of passengers, among them a baby and its mother, who were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. The Bayesian had been active around Sicily, with recent stops at various ports, indicating a routine journey turned tragic.

Local media reports and international agencies, including Reuters, have been actively covering the situation, providing updates on the ongoing search and rescue efforts. The yacht’s owner, Revtom Ltd., based in the Isle of Man, has yet to comment on the incident.
