Gardaí in County Donegal arrested a drug-driver and a passenger early Sunday morning after the vehicle drove through a mandatory checkpoint at high speed. The incident occurred while Gardaí from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit and Buncrana Station were conducting an Operation Thor checkpoint on a rural border road.
The driver failed to stop as signaled, forcing Gardaí to take immediate action. Officers successfully deployed a stinger device to bring the vehicle to an abrupt halt before the tires were punctured.
- The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after testing positive for cocaine at the scene.
- The passenger was also arrested after being found in possession of a small amount of suspected cocaine.
Gardaí confirmed that no one was injured during the incident and that court proceedings will follow for both individuals. A Garda spokesperson urged the public: “Never take unnecessary risks on the roads. Never drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
