Infant Dies Following Tragic Two-Car Collision in Co. Louth

Dundalk, Co. Louth – An infant boy has tragically died following injuries sustained in a two-car collision that occurred in County Louth last Saturday. Gardaí (Irish Police) are continuing their investigation into the crash, which took place on the R132 at Dowdallshill, Dundalk.

The infant, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was rushed for critical care but was later pronounced dead at Children’s Health Ireland, Temple Street.


Details of the Incident and Injuries

The collision occurred between 7:50 pm and 8:20 pm on Saturday evening. Four other individuals were injured and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, all with non-life-threatening injuries:

  • Driver 1: A woman in her late 20s.
  • Driver 2: A man in his early 50s.
  • Passenger: A teenage girl traveling in the second vehicle.

Gardaí Appeal for Public Assistance

Gardaí are urgently appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward, particularly those with video evidence.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R132 in the Dowdallshill area between 7.50pm and 8.20pm are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.”

Those with information are asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

The investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision remains ongoing.
