New Cash for Windows and Doors: How to Claim Ireland’s Latest €4,000 Home Grant

Improving your home’s energy efficiency just got much more affordable. Starting March 2, 2026, the Irish government will launch a brand-new grant scheme specifically for windows and doors. This move is part of a massive €8 billion plan to make Irish homes warmer and significantly cheaper to heat.

What is the new grant?

Previously, if you wanted a grant for new windows, you usually had to sign up for a “One Stop Shop” deep retrofit, which often cost tens of thousands of euros. Now, Minister for Energy Darragh O’Brien has changed the rules. Homeowners can now apply for windows and doors as an individual measure. This means you can choose to do just this upgrade without having to renovate your entire house at once.

How much can you get?

The amount of money you receive depends on the type of house you own. The government has set fixed rates for windows to ensure fairness:

  • Detached Houses: Up to €4,000
  • Semi-Detached and End-of-Terrace Houses: Up to €3,000
  • Mid-Terrace Houses: Up to €1,800
  • Apartments and Duplexes: Up to €1,500

In addition to windows, you can also claim money for external doors. You can receive €800 per door, with a maximum limit of two doors (up to €1,600 total).

Important Eligibility Rules

While this is great news, not every house will qualify immediately. The grant is designed to help homes that are “Heat Pump Ready.” This means:

  1. Your home must already have a good standard of insulation (walls and attic).
  2. If your home is not insulated, you can apply for insulation grants and the window grant at the same time.
  3. The goal is to ensure that heat isn’t escaping through the walls while you’re putting in new windows.

Why is this happening now?

The Irish government aims to upgrade 500,000 homes to a B2 energy rating by 2030. With energy prices still high and climate targets approaching, these grants are meant to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. By trapping heat inside with double or triple-glazed windows, families can save hundreds of euros on their annual heating bills.

How to Apply

The scheme is managed by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Applications open on March 2, 2026. You will need to hire a registered SEAI contractor to do the work. Once the job is finished and inspected, the grant money is paid directly to you (or deducted from the bill if using a One Stop Shop).

This is a major opportunity for those living in older, draughty homes to upgrade their comfort levels without bearing the full financial burden alone.
