MOUNTNORRIS, CO ARMAGH — A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in his 40s in the village of Mountnorris, County Armagh. The victim was discovered with serious head and facial injuries.
Police and the ambulance service were called to a property in the Cusher Green area at approximately 11.30am on Thursday morning after receiving a report of a concern for safety. Upon arrival, a man in his 40s was found deceased at the scene.
A 39-year-old man was arrested later in the day and remained in custody on Thursday evening, assisting detectives with their inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Robinson, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that a murder inquiry is now underway. “The local community can expect to see an increased police presence in the Cusher Green area as officers conduct further enquiries into what happened,” he said. “Cordons are also in place this evening. Although our investigation is at an early stage, we are working at pace to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and to determine exactly what happened.”
The shocking incident has caused a ripple of distress throughout the small, tight-knit rural community. Sinn Féin MLA Aoife Finnegan expressed her profound sadness. “This is a deeply distressing and shocking development for the local community,” she stated, extending her deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.
TUV councillor Keith Ratcliffe also spoke of the “deep shock” in the village, noting that the incident occurred in a quiet part of the estate where many elderly people reside. He urged residents to allow the police to carry out their investigation without speculation.
