Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Car on M8 Motorway in Co Cork

Mitchelstown, Co Cork — A man in his 40s has died following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the M8 Motorway in Co Cork last night. The incident, involving a car and a pedestrian, happened at approximately 9:15 pm on the northbound carriageway between Junction 11 and Junction 12, near Mitchelstown.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body has been taken to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured in the collision.

The M8 motorway between Junction 11 and Junction 12 northbound remains closed to traffic as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene. Local diversions have been put in place, and motorists are advised to expect delays.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. They are also asking for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were traveling in the area at the time of the collision, to make this footage available to investigators.
