LONDON ā A 20-year-old Sikh woman has been racially attacked and assaulted by two men in Oldbury, near Birmingham, in the UK. The incident has been classified as a hate crime, and West Midlands Police have launched an urgent investigation.
The assault occurred at approximately 8:30 AM on Tuesday on Tame Road. According to the victim’s statement, the attackers, described as two local white men, verbally abused her with racist slurs before the physical assault. She reported that the assailants told her, “You have no right to live in this country, get out.”
The victim described one of the suspects as a bald man wearing a black sweatshirt and gloves, while the second man was wearing a grey top with a silver zip. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local Sikh community, prompting calls for increased vigilance and safety awareness.
Community leaders, including Dabinderjit Singh from the Sikh Federation UK, have strongly condemned the attack. The Sikh Youth UK organization has issued a warning to the community, urging members to remain cautious and ensure the safety of their families.
West Midlands Police have stated that the investigation is a high priority. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and analyzing forensic evidence from the scene. Sandwell Police Commander Kim Madill confirmed that extra police patrols would be deployed in the area to reassure the community. She urged anyone with information to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting log 798 or mentioning the incident on September 9th. The police have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that such hate crimes will not be tolerated.
