Washington, D.C. – The United States has imposed sanctions on 32 individuals and entities across eight countries, including India, for their alleged involvement in supplying materials and technology to Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programs.
Key Targets of the Sanctions
The punitive measures target networks accused of assisting Iran’s weapons programs, which Washington views as a threat to global stability.
- The Indian Entity: The specific Indian company targeted by the US Treasury Department is Famlane Private Limited.
- Key Individual: One of the principal individuals named in the sanction document is Marco Klinge, the Director of Famlane, which is based in the UAE.
- The Allegation: The US Treasury alleges that these individuals and entities provided crucial components and technical support to Iran’s defense projects.
US Stance and Global Context
The sanctions, announced on Wednesday (US time), represent the latest escalation in Washington’s efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear program, which the US asserts is aimed at building weapons—a claim Tehran denies, maintaining its program is strictly for civilian purposes.
Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, John K. Hurley, commented on the action:
“Around the globe, Iran exploits financial systems to launder funds, procure components for its nuclear and conventional weapons programs, and support terrorist proxies… Under President [Donald] Trump’s direction, we are exerting maximum pressure to end Iran’s nuclear threat. The United States expects the international community to fully implement the United Nations snapback sanctions on Iran to eliminate their access to the global financial system.”
The announcement also follows reports of joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan in June.
