SLIGO, Ireland – Sligo University Hospital is continuing to manage active flu outbreaks across three separate wards. While this marks an improvement from the six outbreaks reported last week, hospital management has maintained strict visiting restrictions to protect vulnerable patients and staff.
Current Situation There are currently 29 patients being treated for influenza at the facility. Last week, the hospital issued an urgent plea to the public, asking anyone with flu-like symptoms to stay away from the building.
Strict Visiting Rules To curb the spread of infection, the following rules are in place:
- Visiting Hours: Limited to 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM only.
- Visitors: Restricted to direct family members.
- Age Limit: Children are strictly prohibited from visiting adult wards.
- Outbreak Wards: For the three wards currently experiencing active outbreaks, visiting is permitted only on compassionate grounds.
Public Advice Health officials urge anyone experiencing a fever, cough, sore throat, or body aches to postpone their visit. Visitors must wait at least 48 hours after their symptoms have completely cleared before entering the hospital.
