A man in his 20s remains in Garda custody following a knife attack in Dublin that left three men injured. The incident occurred in the Stoneybatter area around 3 PM yesterday, with victims sustaining “slashing-type injuries” at multiple locations, including Oxmantown Road and Niall Street.
The three injured men, aged from their mid-20s to mid-40s, were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Two suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the third sustained a less severe wound.
Garda Response and Investigation
Gardaí responded with “significant” resources, including unarmed and detective officers, supported by Armed Support Units. The suspect was intercepted and arrested near the scene and is being held at a Dublin Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Authorities believe the attacker acted alone and have increased their presence in the area to reassure the community. Gardaí are urging anyone with information to contact Bridewell Garda Station at 01 6668200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
Community and Political Response
Local Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon described the attack as “terrifying” and a “tragedy.” He emphasized growing concerns over public safety in the area and called on Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan to implement “a proper policing strategy” for Dublin’s city centre.
With rising concerns over violent incidents, local authorities and community leaders are pressing for stronger measures to ensure public safety.
