National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company responsible for delivering the Government’s National Broadband Plan (NBP), has announced that almost 2,800 homes, farms, schools, and businesses in the Dromore West deployment area of County Sligo can now connect to its high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network.
The upgrade covers rural communities and townlands in Dromore West, Kilglass, and Skreen, providing access to minimum download speeds of 500 megabits per second.
Major Investment in Rural Connectivity
Under the NBP, 15,000 premises in County Sligo fall within the State’s Intervention Area. This multi-year infrastructure initiative is being hailed as the largest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, with €59 million earmarked for the county.
NBI confirmed that 2,761 premises in Dromore West can now join the network. Locals are encouraged to visit the NBI online map and enter their Eircode to check if their property is ready for connection.
Progress Across County Sligo
Significant strides have already been made in other areas. High-speed fibre broadband is now available in the rural surrounds of Tubbercurry and Sligo town, with 11,010 premises countywide able to pre-order or order connections. To date, 2,715 connections have been activated.
Meanwhile, work continues in the Riverstown deployment area, where almost 3,500 premises are expected to be ready for connection by the end of next year.
How to Stay Updated
Residents and businesses can stay informed on rollout progress by signing up for NBI’s email notifications via nbi.ie/eoi. This service provides updates on construction milestones and notifications when individual premises are ready for order.
The Government has emphasised that delivering fast, reliable rural broadband is essential for economic growth, remote working, and ensuring equal access to education and public services across the country.
