Ireland is set to experience a sharp drop in temperatures this week, with Met Éireann forecasting frost, ice, and even hail showers in some regions as conditions turn significantly colder.

According to the national forecaster, a high-pressure system moving in towards the end of the week will bring clear but chilly weather, with daytime temperatures struggling to rise above 8°C and nighttime lows plunging to -3°C in some areas.

Weekly Weather Outlook:

  • Tuesday: A mix of sunshine and showers is expected, with temperatures ranging between 7°C and 10°C. Southwesterly winds will be moderate to fresh, with occasional gusts. As night falls, conditions will become drier, with isolated showers and temperatures dipping to between -1°C and 3°C, leading to frost and ice patches.
  • Wednesday: Dry and sunny spells will dominate, with only a few light showers in the west and northwest. Temperatures overnight will drop further, ranging from -2°C to 2°C, making it slightly cooler than Tuesday.
  • Thursday: Largely dry and sunny, with occasional drizzle in the southwest. Daytime temperatures will hover between 7°C and 10°C, while nighttime lows will again range from -2°C to 2°C, increasing the risk of frost and icy patches.
  • Friday & Weekend: Colder conditions will take hold, with daytime highs of just 8°C and nighttime lows dropping to -3°C in some areas. The weekend will remain frosty, with daytime temperatures between 4°C and 8°C and nighttime lows of -2°C to 2°C.

As the cold snap intensifies, residents are advised to take precautions against icy roads and frost-covered surfaces, particularly in the early mornings and late evenings. Stay updated with the latest forecasts from Met Éireann for further weather developments.
