Gardaí in Sligo have launched an urgent investigation following reports of a man allegedly brandishing a firearm in the Ballinode area on Wednesday night. Multiple residential properties were searched by officers as part of the probe, though no arrests have been made to date.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed to Media that authorities received a credible report of an individual seen with a gun in the residential neighbourhood. “An investigation into all circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing, and a number of targeted searches have been conducted,” the spokesperson stated. While details remain limited, local sources described heightened police activity in Ballinode, with Gardaí urging residents to remain vigilant.

The incident has sparked concern among community members, with one resident calling it “deeply unsettling.” Gardaí have not disclosed whether a weapon was recovered or if the suspect has been identified. Investigations continue, with officers reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements.
