Starting this Friday at 12pm, average speed cameras will be operational at two locations on the N2 in County Meath. The system, installed between Collen and Ballymagarvey, will monitor vehicles exceeding the 100km/h speed limit, with offenders facing prosecution.
As part of a nationwide rollout of speed enforcement technology, these cameras aim to enhance road safety by promoting responsible driving. Motorists caught speeding will receive a Fixed Charge Notice, which carries a €160 fine and three penalty points on their license. If unpaid within 28 days, the fine increases to €240.
Gardaí have emphasized that the introduction of average speed cameras is designed to influence driver behaviour, lower average speeds, and reduce road collisions, ultimately ensuring safer roads for all users.
