In a devastating incident that shook the community of Blackwood, Co Kildare, a 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life following a hit-and-run accident shortly after midnight today. The young pedestrian, who was fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle, was pronounced dead at Naas General Hospital early this morning.

The collision occurred on the R403 near Robertstown, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. GardaĆ have since sealed off the area to conduct necessary technical examinations, seeking to gather all possible evidence to locate the responsible party.

The driver involved in the incident did not stay at the scene, leaving the community in shock and the authorities in urgent pursuit. GardaĆ are now appealing to the public for assistance. They urge anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses any relevant camera or dash-cam footage to come forward. Witnesses can contact Naas Garda Station at 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

This tragedy highlights the critical need for traffic safety awareness and the importance of ethical conduct by all road users to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
