Starting from September 1, 2024, travellers flying from Ireland West Airport Knock will need to revisit their packing strategies as the European Union re-implements strict liquid restrictions. This change, part of a broader EU regulation adjustment, mandates that liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) in cabin baggage be limited to containers of no more than 100ml.

The updated guidelines stipulate that all LAGs must be housed in transparent containers of 100ml or less. Passengers are required to place these containers in clear, transparent bags for security screening, though the number of bags per passenger will not be capped. The directive aims to streamline security checks while aligning with new safety measures introduced across all EU airports.

Despite the restrictions, there are exemptions in place for essential items such as baby products, special dietary foods, and medications. These must also be stored in clear bags but can exceed the 100ml limit if necessary. Notably, the restrictions do not extend to electronic devices—travelers can still carry laptops, smartphones, and other electronics in their cabin baggage through security checks.

This regulatory shift reflects the European Commission’s ongoing commitment to aviation safety and harmonized security measures across its member states. Ireland West Airport has assured passengers that these measures, although seemingly stringent, are designed to enhance security and efficiency at checkpoints.

For those seeking more detailed information on how to comply with the new rules or for specific inquiries, the airport encourages visiting their official website or reaching out via their social media platforms.
