DROGHEDA – A central junction in Drogheda has been closed after a section of building masonry fell on Friday, resulting in the collapse of overhead Christmas lights.
Louth County Council confirmed the incident, stating it appeared capping from a building was responsible for pulling down the festive lights below.
The affected intersection, encompassing West Street, Peter’s Street, and Laurence’s Street, has been sealed off. Louth County Council has urged the public to avoid the area as their crews work to make the site safe and clear the debris.
Crucially, the council has confirmed there are no reported injuries from the incident. The junction will remain closed until the area’s safety is fully secured. Emergency funding is reportedly being secured to reinstate the damaged Christmas lights as soon as possible.
