SLIGO – A 45-year-old man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison following a targeted arson spree that caused extensive damage in Sligo town center.

The Sligo Circuit Court heard that the incident occurred in the early hours of March 7. During a chaotic 30-minute window, the individual set fire to multiple vehicles, resulting in an estimated €22,000 in damages.

Presiding over the case, the judge noted the severity of the offenses and the danger posed to the public during the spree. The defendant was handed the lengthy sentence as a reflection of the significant criminal damage and the fear instilled in the local community.
