The parent company of Fastway Couriers Ireland, the Nuvion Group, has entered receivership, putting approximately 300 direct jobs at risk with immediate effect. The collapse of the logistics firm, which also includes Parcel Connect and Nügo, is expected to cause significant delays and disruptions across the parcel delivery network in Ireland, particularly as the busy Christmas season approaches.

Reasons for the Collapse and Job Impact

Nuvion Group has cited a challenging economic environment as the reason for the receivership, specifically blaming sustained inflation, rising operating costs, and intense price pressures across the highly competitive parcels market. The company stated that the business was “no longer viable in its current form.”

  • Direct Job Losses: Around 300 direct jobs across the company’s operations, including its head office in Dublin and its customer care centre in Portarlington, are under threat.
  • Indirect Impact: Hundreds more individuals working as subcontractors and franchisees—many of whom are owner-drivers—will also be severely impacted. Reports suggest many couriers were blindsided by the sudden announcement and are owed several weeks’ pay.
  • Immediate Cessation: The company has ceased trading immediately. Staff were reportedly informed that they would not be paid beyond the announcement and should not attend work unless requested.

Delivery Disruptions and Customer Advice

The receivers, Mark Degnan and Brendan O’Reilly of Interpath Advisory, have been appointed and will work with retailers to minimise the impact. However, significant delays are anticipated.

  • Parcels in Transit: There are an estimated 50,000 to 150,000 packages reportedly trapped in depots and vans. The receivers have stated that parcels already in the Fastway network will be delivered “where possible,” and a third-party company has been engaged to complete these deliveries.
  • Advice for Customers: Customers are generally advised to contact the retailer they purchased from, as the retailer is legally responsible for ensuring the goods are delivered. Individuals who directly engaged Fastway to send a package retain ownership and should contact the receivers.
