Man Arrested After Serious Collision in Mayo Leaves Motorcyclist Critical

A man in his 60s has been arrested following a road collision in Co Mayo that left a motorcyclist in his 50s in critical condition.

The incident occurred at around 4.50pm on Sunday on the Castlebar Road in Newport. The collision involved a car and a motorcycle.

Emergency services attended the scene where the motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was discovered with severe injuries. He was treated at the scene before being transferred to Mayo University Hospital, where his condition remains critical.

Following the collision, a man in his 60s was arrested by Gardaí in connection with the investigation.

Garda Appeal for Witnesses

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. In particular, road users who were travelling on Castlebar Road, Newport, between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday are asked to share any camera or dash-cam footage they may have.
